Erik ten Hag has just registered Manchester United's worst ever Premier League finish but the Dutchman has suggested 'everyone knows' why they had such poor results, likely alluding to their injury record

Erik ten Hag claimed "everyone knows" why Manchester United registered their worst-ever Premier League finish despite winning on the final day.

Ten Hag has continued to defend his methods amid continued criticism. Last term he saw United finish third but has presided over a major decline this year. He's often put that down to a plethora of injuries, which have largely ripped through his backline and left him struggling for options. He told the BBC: "It is not good enough by far. Although we had less than 60 points two years ago, 58 points, eighth is the worst performance. It is the truth but we should have done better. We know the reasons behind it, everyone knows, but it is not the right moment to go into it. It’s not good enough."

United have missed out on Europe via the league, but they can yet qualify for the Europa League if they win the FA Cup in a week. They'll have to outdo neighbours Manchester City, who are heavy favourites to claim victory at Wembley and win the double.
