“There’s definitely a familiarity curve and perhaps people don’t appreciate the power of the scooters.”

'Definite' increase in e scooter injuries - Mater Hospital surgeon“It sounds certainly like they could do things - probably nothing too excessive or onerous - that could go a long way towards reducing the accident burden that will happen with electric scooters [before doing this],” he said.

“So, there is definitely a familiarity curve and perhaps people don’t appreciate for example the power of the scooters. “It brakes differently, it handles defects in the road surface differently and it turns differently – the wheels are much smaller and the braking mechanism is different.”He said the faster people are travelling before an accident, the more likely they are to get gurt – but there are other factors to consider as well.

I love seeing people on these silly machines getting hurt

They'll be banning them next!

The green partys future youth s with broken arms legs and further clogging up hospitals

Not one bit surprised. The vast majority of those on them are oblivious to traffic, don't care about rules of the road and tear along busy pavements when traffic is standing still, not caring about pedestrians. Not surprising that a tool like Eamon Ryan thinks they're fantastic .

People under 17 should not be allowed operate these. They are motorised. I’ve seen young kids whizzing at top speed around the roads and pavements in Dublin 8. They could cause death or injury to others let alone themselves. The transport laws are getting stupider by the day.

Simple, they are a motorised veh capable of travelling fast enough to cause injury, therefore should be minimum safety standards that all riders must adhere to and a min ins to cover loss or damage to any person or property. Eamon needs to get his finger out as min for transport

The Greens think they are fine. Thats all that matters
