The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has issued a recall for a popular food sold in multiple supermarkets due to the possible presence of plastic metal pieces - they warned consumers not to eat it

A statement on the FSAI website reads: "The above batches of Magnum Almond Ice Cream 3x 100ml multipack are being recalled due to the possible presence of plastic and metal pieces. "Retailers are requested to remove the implicated batches from sale and display recall notices at point-of-sale.The affected batches are L3338, L3339, L3340, L3341, L3342, all with best before end 112/2025.

The recall comes as last month Magnum also had to recall batches of their Classic Ice Cream Sticks due to the possible presence of metal. The batch codes for the Classic Ice Creams were The batch codes affected are L3324, L3325, L3326, L3327, L3328 and all had a best before date of 11/2025.Plastic pieces can end up in foods due to contamination of the environment during food processing or storage. Metals such as arsenic, cadmium, lead and mercury are naturally occurring chemical compounds. They can be present at various levels in the environment, e.g. soil, water and atmosphere.
