Parking spaces around Dublin city will have to be taken over for pedestrian use to allow social distancing, according to the city council.
Works started this morning by using "orcas" or plastic bollards to seal off a loading bay in Stoneybattter and similar work will be carried out on Dorset Street tomorrow with more planned for Ranelagh, Rathmines and Capel Street.Brendan O'Brien, the council's head of technical services, said this is only the start and parking spaces will have to be removed from extended lengths of roadway where pavements are narrow such as on the Quays and on South William Street.
Warned?.... Announced, shouted from the treetops...... Decreed.... This is not a negative. It's a better measure to decrease cars entering the city than a congestioncharge
dublincycling Warned? I’d prefer the term ‘promised.’
dublincycling Make this permanent please
dublincycling Has warned makes it ominous and negative. Has promised would be preferable. This is good news, a reallocation of space that is long overdue
dublincycling Warned?
Great to see, need lots more of it.
' all over Dublin' the horror. It's about time, continuing to allow cars to drive into the city centre is just nuts.
It would be a good idea if cyclists got off the footpaths for starters.
👍👍👍
Loved the picture on RTE news of the truck that just drove over the plastic bollards and parked to make his delivery, Councilor’s again making stupid knee jerk decisions trying to justify their existence
There are parking spaces in Dublin?
Finally. It is almost impossible to practice social/physical distancing in city centre. Sometimes I have to run on the middle of the road to be able to move from the people.
Where is the investigation by rte into the nursing home scandal ? Why are we paying a license when all they do is spout government propaganda? FergalBowers RTE_PrimeTime tconnellyRTE GeorgeLeeRTE RTELateLateShow RTENewsNow
Never waste a pandemic to push the green agenda.
And pushbikes on the road not on the path please.
Would it not be easier just to have them be directional like the roads are?
Just a poor excuse to reduce traffic in Dublin making it harder for people to get on with their lives. Dublin people are punished more than any in this country for just trying to live their lives.
The old normal was shit lads
