Dublin Airport,Blessing Ritual,Security Protocols

The Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) is reviewing a blessing ritual performed by a chaplain to determine if it meets the airport's strict security protocols. The ritual, which dates back to a more devout Ireland, involves blessing cars, cows, and farm machinery. The airport chaplain, Fr Des Doyle, performs the duty, but it is becoming increasingly difficult to find a suitable time for the ritual.

The DAA is understood to be reviewing the ritual to see whether it complies with the airport’s strict security protocols .The DAA is understood to be reviewing the ritual to see whether it complies with the airport’s strict security protocols .“Blessing cars, blessing cows, blessing farm machinery - that was pretty much the norm in our grandparents’ time throughout the country,” he said.

“It’s an interesting custom because it hasn’t survived in many airports in the world and it’s really difficult to find a time to do it.”When the blessing ritual began, Ireland was a much more devout country and very few people travelled by air.“Dublin Airport’s numbers would be a fraction of what Kerry Airport would do nowadays.”
