Cannabis worth €1.8m seized by Customs at Cork port

The discovery was made following a search of a Polish-registered van which had disembarked from the Brittany Ferries vessel, Armorique, which had arrived from Roscoff in France.

A total of 37 packages of herbal cannabis were found concealed within panels of the van by officials with the help of detection dog Marley. The driver, a Polish national in his 20s, has been arrested and is being questioned at Togher Garda Station in the city. This is the second significant seizure in three weeks in the port and one of the biggest cannabis seizures in the country this year.

Three weeks ago, more than €12m worth of cocaine - some 172 kilos - was found in a container on board the Maersk Nimes which had arrived to Ringaskiddy from South America.
