Drug dealers in one of Ireland ’s largest towns are sending teams of shoplifters into supermarkets to steal baby formula to order. The white-powder formula is being added to batches of cocaine before the drug is sold on by dealers in Navan, Co Meath. In one store, a security guard who attempted to challenge the shoplifters was approached by a dealer and warned he would be stabbed to death.
In recent weeks, a brawl broke out between a number of men in an aisle in a crowded supermarket as horrified shoppers looked on. One source claimed that shop owners now regularly call 999 instead of the local station. “They know by dialling 999 their call is guaranteed to be answered, whereas if they call the station, even if it is answered, there is not enough manpower to respond,” they said. “The baby formula thing is an old trick
