Drivers in Ireland eligible for €119 payment with little-known tax refund

It is possible in certain circumstances to claim a refund on motor tax, which some people aren't aware of.They will need to fill out a form, supported by documentation, and the application must be witnessed and stamped by a member of An Garda Siochana.

Motorists must return their tax discs immediately as refunds are generally calculated from the first of the month after the disc is surrendered. There must also be a minimum of three unexpired whole calendar months left on the tax disc. They said: “The amount of refund of Motor tax that a person can receive depends on the amount of Motor tax paid and the circumstances of the vehicle.“Please note that refunds cannot be issued on vehicles with Motor tax less than €119 per annum and a minimum of 3 full calendar months must be left on the Motor tax disc when applying for a refund .
