Garda Commissioner Drew Harris has stood firm after more than 9,000 gardai voted no confidence in him – and is refusing to quit.
When asked if he was planning to quit after this morning’s overwhelming and historic vote by the grassroots Garda Representative Association that members had no confidence in him, the Commissioner said he had no intention of resigning.“That would be a completely illogical response to the situation that we face,” Mr Harris said at the annual conference of the Association of Garda Superintendents in Naas, Co Kildare.
He added: “It was a heavy blow. “But the point is to stand up again and finish the job that I was employed to do. “This is about protecting the people of Ireland and using our resources, the substantial resources of An Garda Siochana, to do that.” Join our new WhatsApp community!
