The lawn is by far the most time-consuming part of a garden and the onslaught of rain we've been experiencing this spring hasn't made it any easier.
Here, Diarmuid shared his secret to getting a good lawn, which is not going to give you the 'picture perfect' green grass your parents aspire to."The secret to a good lawn is in the preparation. When you're installing it initially make sure the area is free draining. Ensure that you’re creating the lawn in a bright, open and sunny place that has good air circulation.
"I think the consensus coming from gardeners over the last few years is; if you have a standard lawn that looks green, that has some moss on it, that has some flowering dandelions at the moment and will soon have daisies - that’s fine! Don't worry too much about the perfect lawn. "If you can avoid all those and accept that, a lesser quality lawn than your parents or your grandparents had, is better for the environment. That would be a great way to go"."It doesn't exist in real life, but it does a huge amount of damage to the environment. So if we could lessen the emphasis on perfect gardens of any style, or any elements of them, including artificial grass, that would be great.
