Fenton was sent off deep in extra time and Farrell has hinted Dublin will appeal the decision.

Dessie Farrell has indicated that Dublin will challenge the red card issued to Brian Fenton in a pulsating League final with Derry.

It was the first red card of the two-time Footballer of the Year’s Dublin senior career, with referee Conor Lane acting on the advice of linesman David Coldrick. “I saw him pushing a player; now that could be a sending off, I don’t know but anyway I am sure that the powers that be and our own county board will take a look at that and see what happens.”

Having held a four-point lead at various stages across normal and extra time before being denied outright victory by McEneaney’s dramatic intervention, Harte felt it was crucial that his side got the result in the end, even if it was through penalties.
