It has been claimed that the media was told not to cover the minister’s trip last month.

A NUMBER OF posts on social media claim there was a media blackout on a recent trip by Minister for Foreign Affairs Simon Coveney to Turkey.

However, there was no media blackout on the trip. The trip was reported by multiple media outlets in Ireland, both before and after Coveney’s trip. They are rarely used in Ireland, where they are almost exclusively put in place for security reasons on foot of requests from gardaí, usually when they are responding to hostage situations or other situations where individuals are armed.

Coveney’s trip to Turkey took place between 27 and 28 January, when he visited the cities of Ankara and Hatay to hold talks with his Turkish counterpart Mevlüt Cavusoglu and observe cross-border humanitarian aid to civilians in Syria. Images taken during the trip were also posted on the Irish Embassy in Turkey’s official Twitter page on 29 January.

Likewise, there is no evidence for the claim that the minister was seeking to accept migrants into Ireland while in Turkey.

Hahhahahaahahahahhahahahahahhahahaah Ah hahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahha

Nobody believes you anymore....you tried to debunk the creator of the PCR test(Kary Mullis) when he's 'on video' saying the opposite to your article trying to debunk him..lulz...re-writing truth is showing people your true colors....keep it up!

Thanks Snopes.

Just fantastic to see your nonsense getting ratioed tf.

Look at this disgusting carry on from a so called unbiased press , rallying around the people in power 🤢🤢🤮🤮🤮

What was the need to go to Turkey in the first place ?

I didn’t know ! What shit was flying to cover that at the time What blame was been fired at sinnfeinireland to hide simoncoveney visit to corrupt turkey 🇹🇷? Rgds An Taoiseach Nua Éireann Nua 🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪🇮🇪

Why go to a country whose human rights are questionable?

Of course it was reported on, sure the turkish embassy tweeted about it. That should definitely place it onto the conscience of the average irish citizen.

Who here knew Simon Coveney went to radical Islamic Turkey that support Al Qaeda and Isis in Syria, Libya and Yemen to welcome them to the EU? I certainly didn't was this necessary during a 'pandemic' definitely not.

Fake news MUG 😎

Debunked , as if the journal are reputable enough to debunk anything 😅

Batman and Robin mask less.

There was very little on the news about his trip. Some of my colleagues watch the news daily and saw nothing about it. Until I told them, at that they did not believe me 😂

Who ever said anything about a 'media blackout' We were angry over the fact THAT he went there in the first place, while the rest of us are under house arrest and not allowed to leave the country

Debunked?

interesting

Ireland will be getting unlimited refugees from Turkish camps by looks of it

Erdogan .... another lad from the same mould as Putin, Lukashenko, Xi and a few more gentlemen .... I'm sure Coveney got on very well with him?

Do you guys just run PR for the state? Is that your interpretation of 'journalism'?

I had no idea Simple Simon No.2 was off a junket until you lot did one of your world famous comedy debunks 😂Thanks for confirming the media blackout did in fact happen. Out of interest how much financial support from the Government has The Journal received the past 11 months ?

First Iv heard of it....

'The Journal is a credible news outlet that serves the public interest' ⓘ This claim is disputed

Interesting to note that you didn't 'fact check' that Christians and LGBT people were rounded up in large numbers and arrested during his trip there and Coveney said nothing?

why didn't he isolate for 2 weeks in Turkey after getting there and 2 weeks when he came back One law for this lot, another for the sheep

The media propaganda machine to the rescue. Why was Coveney's department advertising for a Chinese interpreter- fact check this.

An insignificant, so understandably under reported news story gets fact checked why not call it what it was. A non story

First many have heard of it is this 'debunked' article 😂

Have a single one of these 'debunkings' you're always coming out with NOT been an attempt defend the government or establishment narrative on a particular issue?

There was very little coverage of it and that’s undeniable

9 out of every 10 journal debunk articles are not debunking anything. They’re feeble efforts to get into the government’s pocket for future job considerations. How about deep diving on all the errors made by the government in their handling of Covid?

Debunk this

The Journal fact checks / debunked. Our daily dose of comedy in these dark times.

Fact check “are in the pocket of the politicians”. Yes. I think they are relying on handouts and the chance of a cushy job from the political friends

But the media didn't cover it and Dept FA issued no details about the trip to support Muslim Dictator Erdogan attempts for Turkey to join the EU... Is the Journal covering student protest being suppressd by Erdogan?

The narrative was how he had the audacity to have a press junket with Erdogans cronies during a period where ordinary Irish people where being kicked to the ground for praying at Holy Wells. It was calling out the blatant, sickening 'one rule for us, another rule for them'

Most if not all of Ireland’s journalists are paid off and afraid to speak up ..

How many more debunked or fact check are yous going to get wrong? Embarrassing to call yourselves journalists

These Debunked articles aren't debunking claims made by anyone with an OUNCE of sanity Stop making up narratives to try and be an authority on truth, you are definitely not!

He was in turkey last month? 😂😂😂😂

Ministry of Truth

Yes there was a Blackout. I just fact checked it myself ✅ No major coverage or mention of meeting with our ambassador to Pakistan.

Except for the fact that there absolutely was a media blackout for Simon Coveney’s mini break to Turkey. He probably ushered in a few immigrants through the back door while we were distracted by literally everyone “dying.” 🙄

Did he PCR/restrict?

I think the Journal have shown that there was essentially a blackout in the reporting of the trip. One article a week beforehand & one 5 days afterwards across all media in the country isn't what I call proper media coverage. Its the first I've heard with this article.

Did ‘de Jurnal’ report on this trip?

Did rte not send a crew out to harangue him for travelling?

What was urgency of Mr Coveneys visit to Turkey, when the majority of people are eschewing their travel abroad, especially their annual holiday,to Turkey, for example. What Mr Covenery demonstrated is that he is exempt for doing what is necessary to keep more strains of Covid out.
