Panti - aka Rory O’Neill - will be one half of the first same-sex couple ever to take part in the show, which starts in January.
The first four celebrity contestants lined up to take part were revealed today by the national broadcaster. They will be among 11 to take to the floor for a chance at the glitterball trophy. Mayo-born O’Neill has been performing as Panti since 1998. In 2007, he opened Panti Bar on Capel Street in Dublin which has become one of Ireland’s most best-known gay bars.
The youngest of yesterday’s foursome is Derry girl Brooke Scullion, who represented Ireland at Eurovision in 2022 with her song That’s Rich. The younger brother of legendary Dublin players Bernard and former senior football captain Alan, Paul was on Dublin’s winning team for the 2008 O’Byrne Cup and was part of the Dublin panel that won three Leinster titles and the 2011 All-Ireland senior football championship. He left the Dublin senior football panel in October 2012.
