Damien Duff on managing Ireland, hate, anger issues and envy of Roy Keane

Damien Duff has revealed that he has no interest in managing Ireland right now - and that the routine of an international manager would drive him ‘insane’.

“Are you really building a bond? You build bonds on Friday nights here in Ireland, Monday nights, and obviously in England Saturday afternoons. Yeah, it doesn’t interest me absolutely whatsoever, because I am learning too much as well at the moment.” “Why do I think I’m hated? I don’t know, try walking down the street, try to go to Dalyer or Richmond, you get constant abuse, personal abuse about myself, my brothers, my family, my sister, anyone and everyone.

“But absolutely there was a lot of anger in me. Why? I don’t know. Maybe because I wanted to build Rome in one day and it wasn’t quite happening. I certainly do remember there was a lot of anger in me and maybe at times I did take it home and Elaine would have to put me back in my place.”
