Ten Covid-19 patients being treated in intensive care died in the 24 hours up to 8am yesterday morning.The Department of Health yesterday reported 574 new cases and a further 56 deaths.
Official data showed the youngest person among those deaths notified to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre yesterday was just 16 years old. The total number of confirmed cases is continuing to fall - it is down 12% in the past week compared to the previous seven days. The number of patients being treated for Covid-19 in hospital fell below 600 last night for the first time since New Year's Day.Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn said good progress is being made.
However, he said given the increased transmissibility of the virus, people must continue to limit their social contacts and starve this disease of opportunities to spread.
