Representatives from RTÉ will address the Joint Committee on Tourism, Culture and Media later this afternoon.
Ms Doherty will say that licence fee evasion coupled with the number of homes with no TV has a direct impact on jobs in the sector, and the nurturing of creativity and talent. Other challenges facing RTÉ, according to its chair, include the emergence of new media platforms, a shift in advertising and a move away from communal viewing.
In relation to Irish language content, Ms Doherty will say that RTÉ takes its Irish language remit seriously and tries to integrate the language into all of its channels and services, as well as developing new content.

What about all the repeats being televised and the unaffordable payments being made to certain 'contractors' ?
Shouldn’t they look at themselves first and establish where money is wasted or how become more efficient and maybe even considering realistic staff salaries and not the huge payments for a few?

Wonder how many people watch RTE because there is not much choice because they Only have Saorview? How many people who have a personal Choice not to watch RTE Do & Don't? Do RTE object to people who have a Personal Choice not 2 watch RTE because of the programs they have on?
I'd say rté has lost thousands of viewers over the last couple year. I wouldn't even dare watch rté TV again or lister to any rté radio station. Absolutely hate everything rté represent.

Think about this. In Gay Byrne's heyday when he could easily have moved to the BBC for a big salary, he was on a three monthly contract at RTE and paid a relative pittance. Today Ryan Tubridy, who wouldnt get a job sweeping the floors at the Beeb, commands half a mil a year!
Their 'stars ? ' are overpaid ! ..same in many state agencies .. these people are earning more than Presidents of other countries !! Sort that out and stop.expecting the ordinary person to foot the bill !!
Rte show & produce utter tripe, why should we pay them to continue it & pay (most) staff ridiculously high salaries, they haven’t made a decent programme in years
They get advertisment AND license payment not to mention other payment streams but still in debt. Maybe they should consider that mismanagement is the cause. Wage payments at the top for RTÉ loveies is huge and will only get larger till they leave, which they won't.

Also, let's give sole responsibility, including full control and ownership of RNaG to TG4. They do a far better job with Irish language broadcasting, and are clearly a lot more efficient than RTE.

RTE need to be downsized, to stop spending money on unnecessary high salaries / Top 10 contractors etc, get rid of RTE2, 2FM and stop wasting money on UK, US and Australian TV. It also needs to end cronisim. Then let's see what true public sector broadcadting will cost us.

Make it a subscription service. Those who want it can pay for it. Most under 50 don’t use it much at all & let’s be honest, it’s leagues behind the BBC as a public service. News and current affairs is ok. The ‘entertainment’ is plain awful. I basically watch the rugby, that’s it.
