Children between the ages of five and 11 could soon receive a Covid jab according to the latest vaccine comments from Taoiseach Micheal Martin.“But I would be bound by public-health guidance in respect of it, because public health will have to weigh up the benefits for the child in respect of receiving the vaccine as opposed to the risks to the child.”Last week, children aged five to 12 made up nearly a quarter of all Covid cases.

Once approval comes from the European Medicines Agency, the National Immunisation Advisory Council and Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan, then Irish children will be well on their way to getting vaccinated. Dr Fauci, who is the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said: "I believe our Irish friends and colleagues who come from Ireland to the United States with vaccination and testing can have a safe visit."
