Chief Executive of the HSE Paul Reid said that mortality has been 'significantly higher' than at any other time in the pandemic

The Chief Executive of the HSE Paul Reid said that mortality has been "significantly higher" than any other time in the pandemic.

Mr Reid said the level of deaths this month "demonstrates the level of transmission that we are seeing across the community". There were 50 deaths among the 65 to 74 age category, 109 deaths among those aged between 75 and 84 and 121 deaths in the over-85 age group. And we know from reports that many people in nursing homes are dying too.

However, he stressed that the vast majority of people in nursing homes who contract the virus make a full recovery and said that advances with the vaccine programme in these settings is very positive. He said the HSE is pleased with the progress they have made in these settings and that second doses will be commencing next week in 27 nursing homes. Today there are around 160 open outbreaks of the virus across the nursing home sector and around 1,800 staff are unavailable for work due to Covid-19 related reasons.

Amazing that it’s around the same time of year that we get swamped with FLU deaths EVERY SINGLE YEAR!!

Government incompetence and intransigence has caused these numbers to rise. They won't take the advice of experts.

Is there a daily rota from government to keep scaring us in media to keep us behaving? When its them who havent had the guts to close borders 10 months ago

What is the mean age, as usual WITH RTE. no context

In nursing home again

Hepatitis A B and C, Aids and HIV, H1N1, Ebola and many others never required a health passport. Next time I'll require all Government official to provide they're free from all of the above before making any form of contact.

From what? The truth now, please!

The vast majority of which have not occurred in hospitals. Utter failure to prevent outbreaks in nursing homes yet again is driving most of these deaths.

The question has to be is it within international norms? We had a very low case facility rate in the first two waves.. how many PCR cycles are we using?

How does the overall death rate compare with deaths durning the same period in 2019?
