Alex Roe may only be new to the scene, but he is already making waves. His love for music developed thanks to the dedication of his teachers in school and he has been mentored by some of the greats of country music since finding fame on TG4’s Glór Tíre.

Looking at Alex, he is calm and collected, but underneath it all he has faced many challenges along the way. It was difficult for me but I can’t imagine how they would have felt. They are amazing people. My dad is probably the quietest man alive and my mam worked in the school, so that was probably hard for her. We got through it as a family. It should never have happened but we are all stronger for it now at the end of the day.

Sinead is probably the most supportive person you could ever meet. She takes care of my Instagram and Facebook. It’s not that I don’t know how to do it, I just don’t have any interest in social media. Sinead keeps everything ticking over for me. Without her, it would be a lot harder to balance things myself because I work full-time as well. I’ve another working for me, Anthony, and he does my PR.

It’s incredible, to be honest. It’s something that I never thought would happen and to be compared to any other singer is amazing. I’ve always followed country music and I can remember my grandmother listening to Big Tom and Larry Cunningham over the years.I applied for Glór Tíre numerous times before I got on the show. Then I got a call from Trudi Lalor and she asked me to come on the show with her. I said “absolutely” because it’s a great opportunity for anybody to get.
