One of the finest remaining examples of a classical coastal artillery fort is due to re-open to the public next month, following extensive remedial and restoration works.

Camden Fort Meagher, near Crosshaven in Cork harbour played a key role in the defence of Ireland, and the west coast of England and Wales, for almost 400 years. The remedial works, which cost €480,000 included the excavation, waterproofing and backfilling of the barrel-vaulted roofs of the casemate block, which houses many of the fort's exhibitions.

Up to 500 members of the British Armed Forces and 30 officers, were stationed there during World War I. Volunteer Daniel Maverley said:"We could only take it so far as volunteers. The Council came in and they are upping the game, for want of a better word, and they are taking it to the next stage - they are taking it from two days up to five days a week, that's a huge step and it will benefit the local community and eventually, in the future, the harbour area."

Tiny Home in Co Cork Goes Up for SaleThis tiny home in Co Cork has gone up for sale - and the inside might leave prospective buyers surprised. Measuring at 37 square metres, 24 Vicar Street in Cork City is likely one of Ireland’s smallest properties to hit the market. Certainly, it’s one of Cork’s smallest in recent years. With one bed and one bathroom, this terraced house is located on one of Cork city’s most historic streets within walking distance of its city centre. Originally constructed in the 1900s, this residence has undergone a comprehensive transformation into a truly modern property and is now listed for sale by private treaty with a guide price of €170,000 via Auctioneera Estate Agency. Internally, the space features an open-plan design with a mezzanine (the sleeping area measures 144 x 200cm), ideal for a double bed, and it is enhanced by a skylight above that bathes the area in natural light.
