Consumers to receive up to 25 cent per bottle or can under new recycling scheme

On returning a bottle or can to a machine in-store the customer will receive a ticket which they can spend in store or get cash or opt to contribute to a charity.

“It will be the same as getting a trolley, you pay a deposit and when you return it you get a refund.” People would not leave bottles and cans on the ground as they would be worth money. The scheme would pay for itself, he added. This is just silly. The price goes up and now those diligently recycling will be forced to avoid recycling to bring them back to the shop

Why was it ever done away with. As kids we would knock all the doors asking for empties, then after bringing them back we would bunce up the money and spend it on sweets for our 'Street party' money went straight back into the economy

This was around when I was a kid!
