And Leslie Reichert told the Mirror that there are a couple of things to keep on top of if you want to avoid catching something from your bottle.
She said that germs, mold, and mildew thrive in moist and dark places so the inside of a water bottle is the perfect place, so they need to be washed after every single use. Her tips are quick and simple, so you can start working them into your daily routine right away - and it's probably a good idea to do so.
Speaking to Apartment Therapy, Leslie said: "Germs will grow on your reusable water bottles after each and every use. Combined with the fact that mold and mildew thrive in moist, dark areas—let’s just say this is not a container you would want to drink anything out of."No matter what the size of your bottle is, germs, mold and mildew will start to grow after each use if not washed with hot water and eco-friendly dish soap.
"Rinse with very hot water and air dry. Fill your water bottle with hot water and a bit of dish soap. Set the extra pieces in a bowl of hot, soapy water to soak. Scrub the inside of the water bottle with a bottle brush until it looks and smells clean. Rinse it out."
