Under fire ex-US president Donald Trump has been urged by Co Clare environmentalists to pick up the phone and end a beach fence row.

The environmental campaigners are in dispute with a five-star golf resort owned in Doonbeg by Trump, 76, whose redacted tax returns could be released to the American public tomorrow.

“He offered his support, but we rejected it. But if he would ring back now again, we could sort out this situation with the fence on the dunes.” Trump International Golf Links and Hotel in Doonbeg wrote a letter to the council in October to state that it erected the fence in a bid to protect fragile sand dunes from getting trampled near the luxury resort. Its spokesperson Tony Lowes, who studied in Trinity College Dublin in 1963 and stayed in Ireland, has described Trump as a “brash New Yorker” who thinks Doonbeg is “small potatoes”.

“I’m not sure if he had declared about running for presidency when we spoke in 2014, but we didn’t speak about him being president.

‘The grass is not always greener on the other side. Australia was never perfect either’Irish Abroad: The grass is not always greener on the other side. Australia was never perfect either’ We need to move away from the media's illusion that irish people have no thoughts for themselves and believe everything outside is perfect. We don't and have never thought this. I know plenty of people who moved to oz, USA, European countries and it just suits their lifestyles.

Irish tourism hasn't returned to pre-pandemic levelsThe Irish Tourism Industry Confederation has estimated that a full recovery to 2019 levels won’t happen until 2026. And I wouldn't blame them 4 not returning to Ireland the rip off prices our hospitality sector are charging they'd be better off going to other countries like Spain where drinks and eating out are far cheaper than here in Ireland That's shocking. We have some of the highest hospitality prices and in return we can offer all the cliffs, the cliffs and let's not forget the cliffs. Oh, and the weather. Saved a lot over pandemic, going on long weekends abroad now every month. Will not give rip off hotels etc here one cent !!
