HIQA says it appears that children are not substantially contributing to the spread of coronavirus, in their household, or in schools | Read more:

The authority has published a summary of the latest research and evidence on immunity and the spread of Covid-19 by children.

The review involves a limited number of studies, and figures show that in Ireland there have been over 380 cases of Covid-19 in those under the age of 14.The data is from the Health Protection Surveillance Centre. HIQA's Deputy CEO and Director of Health Technology Assessment, Dr Máirín Ryan, said: "An Australian study that examined potential spread from 18 confirmed cases to over 800 close contacts in 15 different schools found that no teacher or staff member contracted Covid-19 from any of the initial school cases.

It said it is not yet certain if antibodies to the virus are transferred from mother to the child in the womb, via the placenta.

How dare you say the new normal Mike Ryan WHO There was nothing wrong with our old normal! How dare you spread distance from our children! You have spread fear among the people because of a Corona Virus! And Leo? You chase your career with W.H.O, but you leave Ireland alone!

my own opinion is there is 3 months ahead of us, let the teachers unions, Department of Education etc come together and discuss this in PRIVATE. There is no need for media coverage, this will only raise the anxiety levels for everyone.

Exactly what this Dr Dolores Cahill says...

I’ll have to let mine back into the house then 🙄

richardtgarland Just on the “lead by science” bit When scientists advise we can start schools? - that’ll just be that...or will those who currently support the “lead by science” approach suddenly forget that & go with “I don’t care what they say..I’m just not happy...my kids aren’t going back”?

I think, given the very limited evidence, that the headline should be “MAY not be substantially ...”

Limited evidence from one report on 18 individuals.... That seems pretty conclusive

This informtion was known a month ago which is why Scandinavian schools are operating I'm beginning to feel various govt dept are stage managing information to suit their own agenda. Dept of Ed announce schools closed until next September then a week later HIQA announce this!

Yet the teachers union will still be citing safety concerns about returning to school after 6 months off on full pay 👍

Is this HIQA’s area of responsibility and expertise? It seems overreach

Get them back to school there doing me tits in

Please let them meet their friends and play together now.

lets get them back to school and with their friends then.

HIQA, same crowd that were meant to look after those in nursing homes, enough said

So can they play with their friends again and use playgrounds now?

Children not contributing to spread of virus - HIQAThe Health Information and Quality Authority has said it appears that children are not substantially contributing to the spread of coronavirus, in their household, or in schools. If children dont spread the virus and it does not have bad effect on their health...Then ok to open the schools... The government over-egged the crisis and are now trying to soften us up for a reopening. Problem is, their fear tactics were too effective. And now many don’t want us to reopen until there’s a vaccine, that might never come.

Coronavirus: Irish Covid test-and-trace system far slower than experts recommendProcess takes average of nine days says HSE, but experts say this must be within 72 hours to stop spread of virus Our TTI is far to slow. I don't know how this will effect the phased reopenings. Until the HSE system can improve times no lift in restrictions should take place. So we will never stop the virus and will be locked in the house untill the vaccine?
