Just after 9pm on Wednesday night 7 June, Clifden RNLI became involved in an operation where they came to the aid of the child, conducting a medical evacuation from Inishturk off the coast of Mayo.
Clifden RNLI was tasked with the medical evacuation from Inishturk North, Mayo upon their return from a training exercise, with the request to assist being sent by Malin Head Coast Guard.Clifden’s Shannon-class all-weather lifeboat, St Christopher was launched under Coxswain James Mullen, with crewmen Joe Acton, Dan Whelan and Shane Conneely while John B. Mannion assisted from the shore.
Coxswain James Mullen told Galway Beo in the wake of the operation: We are sending our best wishes to the young casualty and sincerely hope they have a speedy recovery. “I would like to thank our volunteer crew for continuing to go the extra mile and putting their own lives on hold every time the pager goes.
"This has been a really busy period for Clifden RNLI between exercises, assessments and call-outs and I appreciate the commitment of every one of our volunteers."
