On Saturday week, the former RTE newsreader, as well as a whole host of famous friends and supporters, will scale Croagh Patrick in Mayo to raise vital funds for the Irish Motor Neurone's Association and Pieta House ClimbWithCharlie

Charlie Bird has thanked An Post after one of their postmen went above and beyond to deliver him a present ahead of Climb with Charile.Charlie, who has been honest and open in his battle with motor neurone's disease since being diagnosed towards the end of last year, has admitted that he still struggles on some days.

Charlie explained: "Thank you An Post this just arrived for me today. Another example of the hand of friendship."Over 143 climbs will take place across the country alongside Charlie's climb of the mountain in Mayo.
