A charity working with Irish drug addicts said that they are to appeal a planning refusal for an injection centre.MQI had applied to open a supervised injection facility for drug addicts but Dublin City Council turned down the application.
A statement from MQI said: "Merchants Quay Ireland has decided to lodge an appeal with An Bord Pleanála regarding planning permission for a Medically Supervised Injecting Facility. The centre would have catered for between 65 and 100 users a day and would have comprised of seven booths.It added: "The development of this service is part of the Programme for Government and is in the National Drugs & Alcohol Strategy – Reducing Harm, Supporting Recovery.
He said: “People die due to unsafe injection practices and overdoses. These facilities are a tried and tested way to save lives. Locally, we have big problems with needles on the street and public injecting. Nobody should be exposed to such practices.
