As well as differences in testing and reporting, demographic considerations such as different age structures between different populations make international comparisons on Covid-19 tricky.

For example due to differences in data collection and reporting strategies the percentage of people who contracted the disease and died from it ranges from 16.3% of observed cases in Belgium to 12% in Spain, to 6.5% in Ireland, 6.2% in Switzerland and 6% in the United States.

Demographic considerations such as different age structures between different populations also make international comparisons tricky. Yet the percentage of the population over the age of 65 varies considerably across Europe. It is 23% in Italy, 20% in Sweden, 19% in Austria and Spain, but only 13% in Ireland.

Other countries, such as the UK, have only been reporting deaths that have occurred in hospital settings.

Course they are......

Doctor Spin out in force trying to pretend Ireland's death rate isn't as bad as it seems. Incredible that George still feels obliged to go to bat for FineGael after resigning his seat as one of their TDs. This is just propaganda. deeforbes_dee

When someone asks GeorgeLeeRTE what he does I wonder does he tell the truth and say he works in PR or does he delude himself and maintain he is a ‘journalist’😂

Apart from the aforementioned error in your article, English people are, in general fatter, blacker and older than Irish people, live much closer together (present company excepted) and could fly direct to and from Wuhan. Your article is puerile Irish Government propaganda.

You are incorrect to say that the UK only reports hospital deaths. This was adjusted on 29th April. UK ONS reports all cause mortality (ACM) on a weekly basis - Ireland has yet to release 4Q 2019 deaths! ACM is the only meaningful measure - anything else is Govt propaganda.

Here comes the Propaganda, drink it down deep folks, now pay €160 for that honour, you’re welcome

Its not as simple as saying we are testing more so will find more, see some comparisons below Australia 1.36 mn tests 7150 cases UAE 2.11 mn & 32.5k Canada 1.58mn & 88.5k Poland 846k & 22.8k Portugal 778k & 31.5k Denmark 583k & 11.5k Czechia 424k & 9.1k Ireland 325.k & 24.8k

Says the CMO’s spokesperson
