Catholic church reforms 'won't make any difference' in Ireland, Newstalk Breakfast host Shane Coleman says.

That's according tohost Shane Coleman, who was responding to a new document demanding big changes in the church here.

It wants to see changes in attitudes towards women, LGBT+ people, those who are divorced and single parents. The document, which has been sent from Dublin to Rome, also wants to see an end to the mandatory celibacy rule for priests. Former President Mary McAleese has described it as"explosive, life altering, dogma altering, church altering"."I don't think they will happen because Ireland is a drop in the ocean."If you're looking at it in a corporate way, that's it's growth area"."I don't think, even if you were to introduce those changes to Ireland, I don't think it would make a huge difference to the church in Ireland.

"I'm not including Mary McAleese in this, but a lot of the people calling for reforms of the church are people who are probably agnostic or atheist."But I'm not sure it would make any difference to the church here".

Need for change in Catholic Church evident to ‘anyone with two eyes in their head’, says ArchbishopCatholic Church in Ireland has sent synthesis of 26 diocesan reports seeking reforms to Rome “the church is learning lowliness anew. Year by year, it is becoming more like the humble and simple Christ. It is not an easy road, but it is the only road” Not evident with regards land, money and control. If they abdicated power with regard NCH I may have had some respect. Well, everyone except the handful of reactionary goons in the Iona “Institute” that is, who genuinely believe a harder and divisive line is the way to go to put bums in pews.
