Church members urged to lobby TDs so that restrictions on worship are ‘proportionate’

Catholic bishops are urging church members to lobby their TDs over Covid-related restrictions on Masses and funerals, saying limits on public worship should be “proportionate and for the shortest time possible”.

However, in keeping with public health guidance, they have recommended the postponement of the sacraments of First Holy Communion and Confirmation ceremonies “for the time being”. The archbishops said they were therefore making an urgent appeal that a number of matters be addressed. They have also requested a restoration of public worship as part of the next easing of restrictions, as opposed to later on.

Totally agree and I don’t go to any church. Why have a blanket ban on numbers, we can go to the supermarket with masks on, why can’t you do the same proportionally in a church, mosque etc. More utterly ridiculous restrictions, just like the 5K 🙄

I agree re funerals: 25 in a large room would be a more humane number. But public worship absolutely not. No exceptionalism for any particular lifestyles.

Are they trying to drum up business for more funerals?
