Carlow tops in Joe McDonagh Cup of the Year

Five counties are represented in the star-studded side with McDonagh Cup finalists, Offaly taking five places.

The Carlow seven are goalkeeper Brian Tracey, defenders Jack McCullagh and Diarmuid Byrne, midfielder James Doyle and forwards Chris Nolan, Paddy Boland and Martin Kavanagh. Offaly’s five are captain Jason Sampson, defenders Ciarán Burke and Ben Conneely, midfielder David Nally and free-scoring Eoghan Cahill.

Kerry man Fionán Mackessy picks up his fourth consecutive award, having also claimed the M. Donnelly Poc fada All-Ireland title this year as well as playing in Ireland’s recent win over Scotland in the revived Hurling-Shinty International.Players from the Joe McDonagh Cup were asked to nominate outstanding performers in the competition before an independent selection committee adjudicated on the final team.The show will be streamed live on gaa.
