Family carers are bearing the brunt of the cost-of-living crisis and long-term sustainable funding must remain a priority for the Government, according to their representative group

The charity's Head of Communications Catherine Cox said family carers were the bedrock of care and support and said the past two years have been particularly tough for them.

She said carers on low incomes were bearing the brunt of exceptionally high inflation, including a rapid rise in the cost of food and energy pushing them further below the poverty line. Ms Cox said that the awards are about recognising the work that family carers do behind closed doors.Ms Cox said:"They care for loved ones at home, whether it's a child, an adult or an elderly parent or relative and they do it out of love for the person they are caring for, so it is such a crucial role in our society.""Respite is a bigger challenge than ever," she said.

At the ceremony today, Colette O'Shea from Lisnagry, Limerick was named Netwatch Family Carer of the Year. She also cares for her three children, one of whom also has extra medical needs.

Their aim to return generations to racketeering landowners is hand in hand with the hierarchical banking system that denies the majority of young people the opportunity to own a home. Small wonder our youth emigrate. Why haven’t the gov brought in open source living spaces? Cheap and easy to assemble. As long as FG FF have their homes they'll never declare a housing emergency.....Just as they try amd say there was no bailout denial politics....
