Budget 2023: Childcare and contraception investment welcomed but council says one-off payments will not protect women from poverty

Describing significant increase in investment in childcare as a “breakthrough”, it says fees have been so high that even with this, costs will still “leave many parents paying extraordinarily high fees”.

“While the €12 increase to core social welfare payments… will benefit lone parents, carers, Travellers, disabled women and older women, NWC is disappointed that this will mean a real drop of 8.1 per cent in the pension… and of 6.7 per cent in working-age payments between 2021 and 2023. The council is “disappointed” Government did not increase the national minimum wage beyond the 80 cent per hour – to €11.30 – recommended by the Low Pay Commission. This is “too low” says the council and is “at least €1.60 below the living wage” of €12.90.

If this organisation is claiming something you can be almost sure the opposite is true.

Sounds like the Shinners still in charge there. ‘Scope creep’ would be being charitable.

Female Doctors married to male Doctors? Female Govt Ministers with large salaries, expenses and pensions? Should men not be protected from poverty or only victim groups like women? Why are women more deserving than men? Men and women can be poor. Many women are very wealthy.

Concrete levy should move people towards more timber frame housing - Ryan | NewstalkEnvironment Minister Eamon Ryan has said a new levy on concrete should see house-building use more timber frames. Is this for real I thought he wanted to save the trees? So he much rather we cut them down and import more wood into the country on diesel powered ships... not very green is it 🤔 Yeah great until the county planner tells you that the green renewable timber home doesn't fit with the county plan. The left hand doesn't know or should I say doesn't want to know and couldn't care less what the right hand does. Joke of the highest order.
