Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said progress is being made in closed-door Brexit talks between the EU and UK in Brussels. Speaking in Dublin, Mr Varadkar said it is “unclear” if a new deal will be struck by Tuesday night

Failure to reach a deal by tonight will see leaders agreeing to reconvene a summit later in the month, either to ratify a deal should the talks produce one, or to discuss an extension.were resolutely optimistic that a deal could still be done by this evening if the will was there.

Progress in the talks was “slow and they will need to make significant progress today,” he said, “ if there is to be a deal that Michel Barnier can report on tomorrow to EU capitals in advance of the leaders’ summit.” Mr Coveney emphasised that a legal text was required and said “there will not be negotiation of text at the summit. The EU is very clear on that. So if there is going to be a deal at the summit the task force and the British negotiating team have to finalise text.”

'It takes two to tango': UK and EU officials to resume Brexit talks in BrusselsMichel Barnier has raised concerns about the complexity of a British plan to keep Northern Ireland in the UK customs territory while avoiding the need for border controls Let us be honest, the eu are terrified that an independent border controlled UK will flourish when free of the open border globalist eu. Anything to stop Brexit Northern Ireland is Irish land and belongs to Irish people Let's be honest,to get from BoJo proposals to the tunnel, someone must have caved. The narrative is that it was Johnson. I'm not so sure. Bare minimum is the original North only backstop, absolute bare minimum. If it's less and it seems to be, we've abandoned nationalists again.
