A grieving wife yesterday confronted one of her husband’s killers in court asking him why he needlessly took the life of a “defenceless, kind and loving man”.
Looking straight at the accused, who sat passively looking back at her, Mrs Kenny said: “Gillian [my daughter] and I want to look him in the eyes and ask him why did they need to inflict such horrific pain and suffering on John? The trial heard he had been badly beaten, tied up and left to die alone on the floor of the ladies’ toilet in his pub by a gang of men, including the accused.He had been in constant phone contact with his father and two other men who came to the premises later that night.
Imposing sentence, Judge Rory McCabe said the “defenceless and vulnerable” Mr Kenny had been badly beaten and left to die alone following a carefully-planned violent robbery.
