A brave survivor who had a baby after being raped at 13 said she is horrified her attacker was jailed for just three years this week.
“I have been suffering mentally and physically since before I made my statement and it only got worse as the case went on. I have wasted my time. “I lost out on education, life, you name it – and all he will get for his crime is three years with one suspended, all backdated to the time he went behind bars in 2020.”
Una said: “He used to meet me after primary school. I was in my school uniform – I believe he did know what age I was. We were hanging around together with friends and then we started going out after a disco in the rugby club. Two weeks after that he turned 18. I was 13. “I showed him, and he asked me could we use it. I said no. He buried his head in my arms and pretended to cry.“He said that I didn’t care about him and if I did love him I would want to love him properly and have sex.
“We continued our relationship and the sex continued, but he was grooming me, promising me the sun, moon and stars.” Her son, who was born in June 1986, has an intellectual disability and was diagnosed with nocturnal epilepsy, diabetes, and high blood pressure. The mother of two said she could not face the court case and only attended court once during the hearing.
