Interim coaching pair Derek Pender and Trevor Croly masterminded a first home win over the Candystripes since September 2020

RUAIDHRI HIGGINS warned that his side could face a reaction from managerless Bohemians and that’s exactly what they got - as his Derry City side fell five points behind leaders Shelbourne.

Dayle Rooney and ex-Derry striker James Akintunde were the match-winners, while Ronan Boyce briefly gave City hope when he halved the deficit. Hoban had made a blistering start to the season, with six goals in his first five games prior to last night, but the number nine didn’t get a sniff in front of goalkeeper Kacper Chorazka.

Polish keeper Chorazka was called into action to deny Paul McMullan and Adam O’Reilly, and he was quick off his line in the 20th minute to get a hand to Daniel Kelly’s flick, after the Derry winger sought to capitalise on a poor backpass from defender Cian Byrne. Bohs’ targeting of the left-hand-side of the Derry defence intensified and Todd, rattled after his mistake, was done for pace by Connolly four minutes later.
