Man pronounced dead at scene following discovery of body

A postmortem is to be carried out to establish the cause of the man's death. Photograph: Alan Betson / The Irish TimesThe body of a man was found in the river Barrow in Co Carlow on Monday afternoon.

The man’s remains were found close to an area known as Orchard in Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow at about 3.30pm. Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene, where he was pronounced dead. His body was taken to University Hospital Waterford were a postmortem examination is to be carried out to establish his cause of death.
