On 21 July 1972, Belfast city centre was devastated with 22 bombs in around 80 minutes. That day would become known as Bloody Friday.
Two soldiers - Philip Price, aged 27 and Stephen Cooper, aged 19 - and four Ulsterbus workers - William Irvine, aged 18, William Crothers, aged 15, Jackie Gibson, aged 45 and Thomas Killops, aged 39 - were all killed at the bus station. Ulster Unionist Party Leader Doug Beattie said that these"cowardly attacks were typical of the cruel and barbaric nature of the Provisional IRA, deliberately targeting innocent civilians to instil fear in the population".
RTE is just a PR tool for FF and FG. It's very obvious.
Similar to Bloody Sunday senseless violence.....If it should be forgotten then Bloody Sunday should be forgotten ...No point bringing up the past....
You failed to mention that was the end of a month ceasefire in fact the ira wanted negotiations but as with the north there are 4 sides to every story now politicians and rte use that past shamefully to score political points coveney brokers a deal and then wen in power knock sf
Classical case of collusion with our government of the day today ..let’s keep bashing the shiners the past is the past and it serves no one to keep bring up the past TonightVMTV
There were over 400 people killed in 1972, and RTE choose to highlight 1 event. U are shameless.
'Belfast has been rocked by the biggest bombing offensive seen in the city this year.' WATCH: RTÉ News reports OnThisDay in 1972
SF are doing well in the polls, RTE drags up the past and links them to killings 50 years ago.
Obviously trying to paint SF with this as well because you know the ones who pay your wages and raise your tv license prices are going to be gone soon 😂😂 Thats a new low rte
RTE we’re friends with the unionists and anti Irish
Intentionally planting 22 bombs would say different.
Our future government everyone
22 Bombs but didn’t intentionally intend to hurt non combatants. Really!
