Conservation group Bird Watch Ireland has urged members of the public to not be alarmed over the lack of birds in their garden in recent weeks.

The organisation have been inundated with calls and emails from people wondering where have all the birds gone.

However, August to October of this year seems to have been particularly generous when it came to berries, nuts, seeds and insects. A statement from the group said: “This year appears to have been a ‘mast year’ for many trees and shrubs, meaning they’ve produced a bumper crop for the birds to enjoy.“This mast year is likely the reason we’ve had so many people contacting us regarding ‘missing’ garden birds, compared to previous years.

“The first ones back will likely be the Tits, Robins and Dunnocks, with Blackbirds, Thrushes and Finches becoming more regular into December,” the statement said.
