New Government regulations will mean customers can no longer claim loyalty card points after buying booze

Thirsty shoppers will soon no longer be able to use hard-earned loyalty card points to buy alcohol in Ireland's supermarkets.

The restrictions – introduced as part of the Public Health Alcohol Act 2018 – are likely to come as a blow to many shoppers who've long used the system to save their hard-earned cash and put their vouchers towards a nice bottle of wine of a weekend.

Micheal Martin confirmed that schools will be closed until at least the end of January, while most construction is also set to halt.
