Asylum seekers wonder if they are being treated differently to Ukrainians 'because of their skin.'

After Russia invaded their country, the European Union decided that all Ukrainian citizens would be allowed to live and work in the bloc until at least March 2024.

“They were like, ‘Okay, that’s an interesting situation where they’re welcoming Ukrainians’... but they started to ask, ‘Why not us? It is because I’m from Syria, the Congo or Zimbabwe? Or because of the colour of the skin? What’s the reason?’Mr Lopes added that the Irish Government’s response to the Ukrainian war has been “a really good thing” but that same wholehearted welcome should be extended to other people as well.

“So, they are not happy, they are feeling frustrated, they are feeling let down, they are feeling some sort of difference and… as a society we should be looking for equality, respect and solidarity for every single one.”

News cycle: 4 years trump everyday, 2 years covid everyday, 8 months putin and Ukraine everyday. Now that’s died down it’s this bollix every single fucking day. The news isn’t news anymore. Propaganda is all

No because the Ukrainians are genuinely fleeing war. The vast majority of the rest are chancers who are here to economically enrich themselves.

No no, its where they are from.

The processing of applications for asylum is too long and getting longer due to those fleeing war also needing assistance from already stretched system.

Yad be sick to death of this talk.

If there is preferred treatment of Ukrainians I suggest it’s because they are refugees from a country at war on the continent of Europe and not economic migrants from other continents who are supposed to declare refugee status in the first safe country they set foot on.

It’s not anti immigration. Most people have no problem with immigrants refugees or genuine asylum seekers. However it’s suicide of the nation to have no cap on refugees and its idiotic to allow people from safe countries to seek asylum here. Bad Sisters stars snap back at New York Times article that called them British actors | JOE.ieThe cast of Bad Sisters are the latest Irish stars to be claimed as British and let s tell you, they're not impressed by it. Abroad over many years people assumed in many countries including usa,I was English instead of Irish. It can be difficult to place nationality just on shared language with numerous regional accents between countries. I really feel the Irish girls are parochial & very.rude.
