Leaving Certs are set to return to school for three days per week.

The Association of Secondary Teachers in Ireland has directed its members not to co-operate with the Government’s plan for in-school teaching for Leaving Cert students. In a statement, it said it was not consulted prior to Minister Foley’s announcement that special schools would reopen and that Leaving Certificate students would receive in-school teaching provision for three days each week.

The Teachers Union of Ireland general secretary has said that there are a number of reasons why schools are concerned about having Leaving Cert students back in the classroom for three days a week. Around 100,000 students and teachers are affected by the decision to have Leaving Cert and special education classes return to school buildings next week.

The TUI president called for the plans to partially reopen schools for Leaving Cert students from next Monday to be paused. Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Marjoram said that some teachers “feel that they are being put at risk” by this decision. “We weren’t advised to close schools,” he said, adding that the CMO did state if the government went for a full closure of schools that it should have regard to children with special needs.

Education Minister Norma Foley said yesterday that schools are safe places, but the measures that are being introduced are required to minimise the movement of people across the country.“They can alternate it, it could be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday one week, Tuesday Wednesday, Thursday another week,” said, adding that the plan is for across the board including Leaving Cert Applied and Leaving Cert Vocational Programme,” Foley said.

Pup

I’m sorry but is the leaving cert not one of the most important exams for the young adults of this country to take for their futures, why are we dismissing this all in the name of covid, not one student or teacher has died from this virus

Any teachers willing to do on line Skype or teams calls pay them but if they just want to send homework out then put them on PUP simple.

Did astiunion consult with its members? No As a member of ASTI i would prefer to do actual classes rather than online lessons. This is a terrible decision by ASTI.

Dead right. All on pup for the next three months. Then teach April, May & June.

pup the chancers 🤞
