The former Irish soldier was sentenced to 15 months in prison just five days ago for joining Isis when she travelled to Syria in 2015.
Smith watched via video-link from prison as her lawyers asked the court to consider an immediate bail application. One of the grounds of appeal against the severity of her sentence will be that the Special Criminal Court did not give enough credit to Smith for the time she spent in refugee camps in Syria before she returned to Ireland in 2019.
Earlier this year, Smith became the first person to be convicted in an Irish court of an Islamic terrorist offence committed abroad when the three-judge, non-jury Special Criminal Court found that she joined Isis when she travelled to Syria in 2015.

Just think, if she buggered off to Ukraine to fight the demon Russians she'd be hailed a hero and probably get a slot on that thing Tubridy does on the telly on Friday.
Plans on appealing a 15 months sentence, she needs to be thrown in a cell & left to rot. No justice for the Yazidi women & girls who suffered the most heinous crimes because of ppl like Smith. Have no idea how her family could take back such a disgusting monster.
15 months is not nearly long enough for that woman .
Shameful behaviour by the Judiciary, First a show trial in an illegal, unconstitutional Court, then this treatment of a woman, who that 'court' admitted is no danger to society.. Bad two days for the legal system.. Pitiful
Keep her in prison, its where she belongs
I can see why Muslims like to keep a mot's face covered.
Send her to a prison in Syria
Why is she wearing a blanket ?
Right to lock her up and throw away the key
