Animal welfare groups issue warning as 'pandemic' of missing dogs hits Ireland

A number of people decided to get a dog for the first time during the Covid-19 lockdown as so many were at home and looking for some company.

“We’re very concerned that the price of dogs is rising, and that they’re seen as so lucrative now because obviously it will encourage people to steal, or to take dogs that they find and not give them back. The Davitt family in Dublin has described how they have felt “devastated” after their 11-year-old Jack Russell, named Jack, went missing on June 22.“He’s my mam’s baby. She’s distraught without him, as we all are.“We’re petrified that he’s fretting and he’s upset and he doesn’t understand why he’s not with us anymore.
