Former Ireland goalkeeper Alan Kelly has revealed that he was invited to watch Real Madrid train ahead of their Champions League final win against Borussia Dortmund .
“I worked with Carlo Ancelotti and all his team for nearly two years at Everton. I got an invite to go over and we want to watch the goalkeepers train. It was an absolutely fantastic experience.“But what a stadium, what a man. He must be one of the best managers that there has been in world football.”
“It was incredible, the experience of it, how he worked with players and how he dealt with situations, how he worked above in terms of the hierarchy above it and also how he dealt on a day-to-day basis with players. He is truly a magnificent manager.”“Fortunately when I was with Ireland, working as goalkeeping coach, Giovanni Trapattoni was the manager and I was with him for five-and-a-half years,” said the 55-year-old.
He made his debut in a February 1993 friendly against Wales at Tolka Park, “where my father started his League of Ireland career for Drumcondra.”Both were memorable trips for different reasons. It was a different time, player welfare-wise, in ‘94 when the Boys in Green prepared for the tournament in Orlando.
“They measured your weight at breakfast and again at night time. So what they did was, to recover, for every pound you lose you have to drink half-a-litre of water.
