The Treaty was signed in London on 6 December, 1921 by a delegation sent by Dáil Éireann and members of the British Government.

The document is noted as one of the most important in Irish history, leading to the creation of the Free State and acting as a catalyst for the Irish Civil War.The first features the signatures of both the Irish Treaty delegates and the British representatives: Arthur Griffith, Michael Collins, Robert Barton, Eamonn Duggan George Gavan Duffy,David Lloyd George, Austen Chamberlain, Lord Birkenhead and Winston Churchill.
