Amazon Alexa struggles to understand people from Dublin, new data shows

Research shows the famous virtual assistant and other AI devices struggle to make head or tail of commands spoken by people from our Fair city.

The Dublin accent is ranked as 11th hardest to understand across the UK and Ireland, more difficult than places like Manchester, Sheffield and London.People from each place were recorded asking their smart devices ten common questions.The research also counted how many searches people in these cities made for ‘Why doesn’t Alexa/ Google understand me?’

Over 1,000 people a month in Dublin ask Google ‘why doesn’t Alexa understand me?’, while the voice assistant couldn’t understand 40% of commands in the experiment. The Cardiff accent in Wales was ranked hardest for AI technology to understand with a total of 1,550 searches and a voice clarity score of seven out of 10.
