The announcement led a lobbyist for Airbnb, Derek Nolan, the former Labour TD for Galway West, to send off a strongly worded letter to the minister complaining about the lack of consultation with the company.
Mr Nolan described the company as a “pillar of the Irish tourism industry and a proud corporate citizen here”, employing more than 900 people in Ireland. He told the minister the company fully supported the Government’s proposal to implement a single national register for short-term lettings in the tourism sector.
The letter shows the former politician was particularly aggrieved at the lack of consultation with the company before the Government announced the measures.

Airbnb should be banned
Airbnb has sucked the life out of Amsterdam.
Airbnb has caused major housing shortages for renters and first time buyers around the world, in some cities its banned. About time Ireland curbed their business model. Airbnb Lobby group headed by ex Labour TD politician Derek Nolan don't like it.
They would, wouldn't they 🙄 there's still lots of Dubious short term & bizzare letting arrangements being advertised on Daft & elsewhere.
The government are making a public problem a private citizens problem. What's next going to tell pensioners you've too many rooms in you're house you need to move to a smaller apt. So we can use you're property for better purpose.
How many airbnb hosts actually registered ? Still 0 ?
