Dr Sarah Doyle, Specialist in Public Health Medicine with HSE, said she understands that people are concerned due to the delay in getting a test. She said the HSE will try to link people who don’t drive or can’t get a lift to a drive-through testing centre with the National Ambulance Service to get a test done.CEO Paul Reid said the HSE is in advanced negotiations internationally, mainly with China, to secure 100,000 more kits per week in the future as well as extra ventilators.
Reid said the HSE typically spends about €15 million per year on personal protective equipment for staff. Since January, it has spent €60 million on PPE including a €20 million order on items such as 11 million masks, one million goggles, and 400,000 gowns and suits. He said he wanted to assure the public the HSE is “putting plans in place” and “working around the clock to secure medical equipment and supplies”.
Doyle said it’s okay to go outside in twos and threes once physical distancing is observed, at least two metres of space between people is recommended. She said “solidarity is very important” and said “physical distancing” is perhaps a better term than “social distancing”.
Ordinary flu deaths in Ireland. Dr.Kelleher said deaths each year from flu in the State. some 300-450 died indirectly due to conditions i brings on such as pneumonia and heart disease. There were 222 direct deaths from flu last season, as well as more than 600 who died indirectly
Uk ordinary flu deaths. In some years it is estimated flu deaths can rise to over 10,000 deaths (see for example this UK study from 2013 , which estimated over 13,000 deaths resulting from flu in 2008-09).
Look at ordinary flu mortality in Italy.. According to a study, 68 000 deaths were attributable to flu epidemics in the winter months between 2013 and 2014, and 2016 and 2017 respectively. Italy has an ageing population, and the elderly are more at risk, generally.
So that's 40,000 showing symptoms 😖
There's a big backlog on front line healthcare staff getting tested too...as I was told on Friday. So we won't be able to get back to work as soon as we'd like if symptoms subside.
If their symptoms have ceased by the time they get tested, will they test also, for if you had it? rather than do you have it.
but government never forgot to make new shady laws and limit right of plebs. plebs can wait for tests. what actually was done to fight with the virus other than limit citizens rights so far?
That's a shocking indictment of the Govt response to this......
So if we've tested 10,000 as of yesterday, and have 785 +ve, that's 7.8% +ve so we expect at least +3,100 new +ve from these tests. 😣 Unless something lessens the +ve rate. Hope so.
Lovely! The state is well prepared for the crisis....🙄
Testing, testing, testing, results, tracing and isolation.
